Auburn commit Alvin Henderson sets AHSAA single-game TD record

Elba senior and Auburn running back commit Alvin Henderson scored 10 touchdowns and three 2-point conversions Friday night, setting AHSAA single-game records for rushing TDs and points.

He ran 40 times for 435 yards, the 12th-best single-game total in AHSAA history, according to the governing body’s online record book.

Henderson’s TD runs covered 47, 2, 26, 3, 45, 20 and 42 yards in regulation and 2, 4 and 11 yards in the overtime periods, according to the Dothan Eagle.

McKenzie stopped Elba quarterback Cayden Adkins’s 2-point run in the fourth overtime, giving McKenzie the 80-78 victory.

Henderson’s 10 using touchdowns broke the previous single-game record of nine set by Hubbertville’s Tommy Haley-Ricks during a 76-52 victory over Vina in 2008. Haley-Ricks also held the previous single-game records of 58 points, but Henderson tallied 66 points in Friday’s game.

Henderson racked up 418 yards and seven TDs on 37 carries in regulation. He added 17 yards and scored all three times he touched the ball in the overtime periods.

In 2023, Henderson set new AHSAA single-season records for touchdowns and rushing yards, thanks to running for 3,523 yards and scoring 68 times last season.

Henderson didn’t set the only records during Friday’s four-overtime thriller. The teams did, too.

The game produced 158 points, eight more than the previous state record of 150 by Central Hayneville (78) and Billingsley (72) during a three-overtime game in 2023. It’s also more than 147 combined points in Ohatchee-New Hope game earlier this season, when Ohatchee won 76-71 in the highest scoring non-overtime game in AHSAA history.

McKenzie and Elba scored a touchdown and a two-point conversion in each of the first three overtimes, leaving at tied at 56, 64 and 72 after the three OTs. Regulation ended in a 48-all deadlock.
