Shondell Harris, Mary G. Montgomery outlast Daphne in 7A, 1 opener

Quarterback Shondell Harris threw two touchdowns passes in a drenching rain and led Mary G. Montgomery on two long drives to open each half and crack Daphne’s backbone as the No. 10 Vikings beat Daphne 21-8 Friday night at Grider Stadium.

Harris completed 7 of 16 passes for 94 yards, including a 6-yard TD pass to D.J. Braughton to complete a grinding 90-yard, 16-play drive that chewed up 6:41 through most of the first quarter and early into the second. He added a 13-yard touchdown pass to Devin Pettway late in the first half to give MGM a 14-0 halftime lead after the Trojans fumbled a punt snap at their 13.
