Another Alabama HS football game changed due to violence threat

The scheduled high school football game between Eufaula and Montgomery Catholic has been moved from Thursday to Saturday due to threat of violence at the school.

Eufaula coach Jarrell Jernigan and Montgomery Catholic coach Kirk Johnson confirmed the schedule change to AL.com.

The game will begin at 1 p.m., still at Eufaula.

“Our prayers are with the administrators, officers, students, and everyone involved at Eufaula,” the school wrote in a social media post. “We pray the situation gets resolved swiftly and correctly.”

This schedule change comes after Eufaula City Schools canceled all classes and after-school activities Thursday after receiving what officials described as a “threat of violence.”

In a notice Wednesday evening, district leaders asked all students and staff not to report to school Thursday.

“Students and staff will not report to school on Thursday, Sept. 5, but all administrators are expected to report as normal,” the statement read. “ECS is working with the Eufaula Police Dept. and will provide more information as soon as possible.

It’s the second high school football game in less than a week to be altered because of a social media threat. Last week’s Tallassee vs. Elmore County game was stopped in the third quarter because of a threat.

Eufaula (1-1) earned a win at Russell County last week, while Montgomery Catholic (2-0) beat St. Clair County.
