Former UAB, Jax State coach Bill Clark to join Gamecocks’ broadcasting team

A familiar face will be calling some Jacksonville State football games this fall.

Former UAB and Jax State head football coach Bill Clark will be joining the broadcasting team at Jax State, Bill Bussey announced on the Rick & Bubba Show on Thursday.

Clark will be doing two home games alongside Eli Gold – Jax State’s games against Southern Mississippi on Sept. 21 and Florida International on Nov. 16.

“He does a really good job,” said Bussey, who was hired as Jax State’s assistant athletics director for broadcasting in August. “I’m excited to have him on the team. They’ll make a great, great pair.”

Jax State athletics director Greg Seitz confirmed Clark agreed to join as a color analyst.

“We are excited to have Coach Clark join our broadcast team as our color analyst,” Seitz said. “He will be able to provide some great insight and analysis from a coaches perspective and along with Eli Gold, we feel like we have one of the best television broadcast teams in the country.”

Mike Parris and Ray Hammett will continue leading radio broadcasts on the Gamecock Sports Network.

Clark most recently spent six seasons as UAB’s head football coach, finishing with a 49-26 record and two Conference USA championships. He was named Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year in 2018 after leading the Blazers to an 11-3 record and a CUSA title.

He retired in 2022 due to what he described as “long-standing back issues.”

Before he became the head coach at UAB, Clark spent one season as Jax State, his alma mater, leading 2013 team to an 11-4 record and an appearance in the FCS playoff quarterfinals.
