Birmingham H2K gang member pleads guilty to federal Glock switch charge
A man described by authorities as a known Birmingham gang member has pleaded guilty to a federal gun charge.
Tavares Trevon Nelson, 20, entered his guilty plea Tuesday on a charge of illegally possessing a Glock pistol equipped with a Glock switch, a conversion device which turns a handgun into a machine gun.
Nelson is a member of H2K, a well-known gang in Birmingham with a propensity for extreme violence, the feds say.
His guilty plea was announced by Northern District of Alabama U.S. Attorney Prim Escalona and ATF Special Agent in Charge Marcus Watson.
According to Nelson’s plea agreement, the U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task for on Nov. 1, 2022, arrested Nelson on outstanding warrants for theft of property and receiving stolen property.
“Nelson had been identified by law enforcement as a core member of a local, violent street gang known as Hard 2 Kill, also known as ‘H2K,’ according to the release announcing his plea.
Birmingham police officers carried out a search warrant on Nelson’s apartment.
It was there that officers recovered a Glock .45 caliber pistol equipped with the “Glock switch.”
ATF investigated the case, along with the fugitive task force and the Birmingham Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Kristy Peoples is prosecuting the case.
A sentencing date has not yet been announced.
