Harris vs. Trump latest presidential poll: Who is winning? Candidate’s numbers continue to surge
Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris continues to ride a wave of support in the wake of her party’s convention, according to the most recent election poll.
USA Today/Suffolk University’s poll showed Harris was the choice of 48% of likely voters compared to 43% backing former President Donald Trump, the Republican nominee. The numbers reflect an 8-point turnaround in the race from late June when Trump was leading President Joe Biden in the survey by nearly 4 percentage points, pollsters said.
“Young people, persons of color and low-income households have swung dramatically towards the vice president,” David Paleologos, director of the Suffolk University Political Research Center, said in a statement. “These same demographics were emphasized and woven together by numerous speakers at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago.”
For example, among those with incomes of less than $20,000, Trump was leading Biden by 3 percentage points in June’s poll. Two months later, Harris was leading by 23 percentage points, representing a 26-point swing. A 24-point swing was seen among young people ages 18-34, among whom Trump enjoyed an 11 point lead in June. By August, Harris was up 13 percentage points among the key demographic, a 24-point swing in her favor.

Harris also enjoys leads among Hispanic and Black voters. In 2020, Biden won by plus-85 points among Black voters to capture the Electoral College. At plus-64 points, Harris has not be able to meet that mark, due to a small fraction of young Black men who are holding back support for the vice president or voting for Trump, pollsters said.
The nationwide USA/Suffolk University poll was conducted Aug. 25-28 through interviews with 1,000 registered voters. The margin of error is plus/minus 3.1%.
