Human remains found in debris of burning shed in Birmingham identified as 41-year-old woman
A woman found dead in a burning shed in Birmingham five months ago has now been identified.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the woman as Markita Renea Hutton. She was 41 and lived in Birmingham.
Hutton was identified through DNA, said Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service responded just before 11 p.m. Wednesday, April 3, to a fire in a detached shed in the 300 block of 21st Avenue South.
When the blaze was extinguished, Hutton’s remains were found in the debris.
She was pronounced dead on the scene at 12 a.m.
Yates said the cause of Hutton’s death is pending laboratory studies.
The investigation is ongoing by Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service and Birmingham police.
