Mortimer Jordan High School teacher killed in ‘bus incident’ on campus
A Jefferson County high school teacher, who was also a bus driver, was killed Wednesday in what authorities described as a “bus incident.”
The accident happened before 6:45 a.m. at Mortimer Jordan High School in north Jefferson County. It took place in the parking lot before the driver ran his route.
Superintendent Walter Gonsoulin did not identify the teacher, but said he was longtime employee and that his family had been notified.
School was cancelled for the day but will resume Thursday.
“We ask for prayers for the victim’s family and the faculty and staff and student body of Mortimer Jordan‚’’ Gonsoulin said.
Grief counselors will be at the school on Thursday.
Gonsoulin said no student saw it happen, but one student was on campus at the time that witnessed the aftermath.
“As you can imagine, this is a tight-knit community as a whole, a tight-knit faculty and staff as well,’’ Gonsoulin said. “When you have a faculty member that passes away, it’s going to affect them.”
“This is a time we all stick together as a family, we lean on each other,’’ he said. “We support the victim’s family.”
