Nick Saban makes Alabama-Western Kentucky with Miss Terry after ‘GameDay’ shift
Nick Saban made it a day of college football.
The ESPN “College GameDay” analyst started the day in College Station ahead of Texas A&M-Notre Dame with a three-hour broadcast. The former Alabama coach wasted little time getting back to Tuscaloosa, joining his wife Miss Terry and his family for the Crimson Tide’s season-opener against Western Kentucky.
Saban told Ryan Fowler he made it home by 1:30 p.m.
The game marks the debut of new head coach Kalen DeBoer.
It was a memorable morning for Saban, 72. He said he had “so much fun” in the midst of the chaos that was the picks segment. Johnny Manziel highlights gave him nightmares. Pat McAfee went shirtless. Lee Corso did his best leprechaun impression. It was an anarchy.
Saban revealed he tried for years to hire Dirk Koetter, the Boise State coach, as the Alabama offensive coordinator. McAfee joked Saban spent too much money paying players.
Meanwhile, Clemson coach Dabo Swinney, who joined “GameDay” for a segment, offered a suggestion for Saban, which included wearing a “Pat McAfee tank top.”
The highlight, however, was Saban dropping an s-bomb when talking NIL. Kirk Herbstreit said the former coach just broke the Internet when Saban said, “I just wanna say you guys keep talking about a $20 million roster if you don’t pay the right guys, then you’re (s-word) out of luck.”
