Alabama woman accused of killing, dismembering husband

An Alabama woman charged in the death of her husband is accused of dismembering him after he was killed.

Joselina Elizabeth Lopez, 26, is charged with murder in the slaying of Benito Morales Guzman. She is being held in the Geneva County Jail without bond pending an Aniah’s Law hearing set for next week.

The investigation began when a co-worker of Guzman became concerned with his absence and notified the Geneva County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff’s investigators discovered Guzman’s body Tuesday afternoon behind the couple’s home on Grady Garner Road in Slocomb.

Sheriff Tony Helms brought in the State Bureau of Investigation to help with the probe.

Helms confirmed that Guzman was dismembered after his death in an attempted to hide the body. He did not elaborate, and said an autopsy was underway Friday to confirm how Guzman was killed.

Charging documents against Lopez state Guzman was killed sometime between Aug. 24 and Aug. 27.
