This restaurant chain is closing 9 underperforming locations. Here’s where
Fast-casual burger chain Shake Shack has announced it will close nine of its company-owned restaurants.
According to Fast Company, the decision follows an evaluation that identified these locations as underperforming.
In a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, the chain identified restaurants in California, Ohio, and Texas that were underperforming “in part due to changes in the trade area and, in some cases, are negatively impacting other Shacks within their proximity by cannibalizing sales,” reports Nations Restaurant News.
Six of the Shake Shack locations scheduled for closure are in California (Oakland, Bunker Hill, downtown Culver City, Koreatown, Silverlake, and Westfield Topanga). Two locations are in Texas (Houston Galleria and Montrose) and one location is in Ohio’s Polaris shopping district.
Shake Shack says the closures were not expected to impact the company’s plans for further expansion in those states and it doesn’t plan on closing other restaurants “for the foreseeable future,” reports Fast Company.
The company expects the locations to close by Sept. 25.
