Birmingham’s Brasfield & Gorrie announces leadership changes
Birmingham’s Brasfield & Gorrie is announcing several major leadership changes to take effect at year’s end.
President Rob Blalock will become CEO effective Jan. 1, while current CEO Jim Gorrie will become executive chairman of the company, and founder and chairman Miller Gorrie will continue to serve as chairman of the Gorrie Legacy Trust.
Jim Gorrie’s role will include supporting Blalock and the leadership team in his new role.
“A representative of the Gorrie family will always serve on the trust’s board to ensure that the company continues to operate by the principles and values they’ve established,” the company said in an announcement.
Blalock’s elevation is seen as the culmination of a move in the works for some time for one of Alabama’s signature contractors.
Blalock has spent 26 years with Brasfield & Gorrie, serving in preconstruction and project management positions. He was appointed as president in 2022.
During his career, he has led commercial and multifamily high-rise projects, such as Atlanta’s 1010 Midtown, 77 12th and the Loews Atlanta Hotel and Convention Center, as well as Red Hat Tower in Raleigh; and the Omni Hotel and Convention Center in Nashville.
“I know I have big shoes to fill as I follow Jim, whose leadership has been tremendously important to me throughout my career at Brasfield & Gorrie,” Blalock said. “Jim followed in his dad’s footsteps by prioritizing treating our clients and subcontractors the way we want to be treated. He also set the tone for collaboration across the company. It’s a huge privilege to carry forward the foundation laid by past generations.”
“I could not be more confident in the future outlook for our company,” Jim Gorrie said in a statement. “Rob’s creativity, passion, and leadership have been evident throughout his career, and we’re thrilled to formalize this transition after years of planning and working closely together.”
“The company is in good hands,” said Miller Gorrie. “I have every confidence that Rob will continue to uphold the values and foundation of Brasfield & Gorrie, and the Gorrie Legacy Trust ensures our stability for the long term.”
In other moves, Todd Jackson has been named president. During his 29 years with the company, he has specialized in healthcare construction project management and leadership. His projects have included Grandview Medical Center in Birmingham; Memorial Hospital in Chattanooga; Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor and Select Medical California’s Rehabilitation Institute in Los Angeles.
Alexia Borden, who joined the company in early 2024, will be promoted to chief administrative officer.
