Walmart makes major changes to what you can buy on its website

Walmart is expanding its online offerings with new Marketplace categories in the latest bid to unseat Amazon.

In a statement, Walmart said it is adding three new categories to its Marketplace: premium beauty products, used items including luxury fashion, electronics and sporting goods, and collectibles.

The changes were announced earlier this week during Walmart’s Let’s Grow! 2024 Walmart Marketplace Seller Summit. Walmart Marketplace allows sellers to use Walmart.com as a platform to sell and market their items alongside the retailer’s products. According to company officials, Walmart Marketplace sales grew by more than 30% in the past four quarters and the number of sellers utilizing Marketplace via Walmart.com grew 20% last fiscal year.

Here are the Marketplace changes:

  • Walmart is launching Premium Beauty with more than 20 high-end brands like COSRX, T3 and Beachwaver, along with other skincare, hair care and hair tool products.
  • Pre-owned items will be sold through Resold at Walmart. The site will include 5 million-plus items from more than 1,700 sellers with luxury fashion and electronics, collectibles, sporting goods and more. The company already operates Walmart Restored, a collection of refurbished electronics and small appliances.
  • Collectibles such as action figures, dolls, trading cards, sports memorabilia, comic books, records and musical instruments will be part of the Collector Shop. The site will also allow for pre-orders on high-interest drops.

The changes also include multiple supply side additions to make it easier for sellers to use Marketplace to reach customers.
