Pennsylvania Steel acquires Birmingham steel service center

Pennsylvania Steel Co. has acquired Birmingham-based Besco Steel Supply.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Based in Bensalem, Penn., Pennsylvania Steel has 11 facilities in Pennsylvania, New York, Connecticut, North Carolina, Ohio and Virginia. Besco has, in addition to Birmingham, a Winder, Ga. facility.

“The integration of Besco Steel’s operations with Pennsylvania Steel will enhance our ability to meet the needs of our customers with a broader range of products and services, while maintaining the high standards of quality and service that both companies are known for,” Pennsylvania Steel said in an announcement.

Hale Nelson will lead the Birmingham operation.

Nelson has experience in inside and outside sales, operations and sales management, and was an award-winning district general manager of three locations in the Southeast.

Prior to joining Pennsylvania Steel, Hale was a regional director of operations in the construction supply industry.
