Chip English’s first win as head coach of the Hoover Bucs was one to remember, as if a milestone victory would ever be forgotten anyway.

But the dramatic fashion in which Hoover secured the 17-14 win at Western High in Davie, Fla., in the Broward County National Showcase on Saturday will live in Bucs’ lore for a long time. Junior James Bryant booted a 38-yard field goal with 23 seconds left in the game. He got the chance for the game-winner only after cornerback JJ Moultrie blocked a point-after try by Western and returned the ensuing kickoff 99 yards to tie the game with 9:28 left to play.
