64-year-old ID’d as man found dead alongside bicycle in Birmingham drainage ditch

Authorities have released the name of a man found dead alongside a bicycle in a west Birmingham ditch.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the man as Darrell Stephens. He was 64.

The discovery was made at 1:15 a.m. Tuesday in the 1600 block of Matt Leonard Drive, according to the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office.

Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates said the remains and the bike were found in a drainage culvert at the bottom of a small ravine near the road.

The investigation is ongoing to determine the manner and cause of his death.
