Auburn running back Brian Battie released from hospital after May shooting

After more than three months of treatment and rehabilitation, Auburn running back Brian Battie has been released from the hospital, according to an update posted to Facebook on Saturday morning.

In photos attached to the post, Battie is seen wearing an orange Auburn shirt as he walked out of the hospital.

“Today was a special day that we will never forget. With hearts full of gratitude and praise, we watched Brian walk out of the hospital after suffering a gunshot wound to the head,” wrote Brian’s mother, Adriene Battie. “Words can’t express the joy and thankfulness we feel right now. We have witnessed a miracle, and we know it’s because of God’s grace, mercy, and the power of prayer.”

On May 18, Brian Battie was the victim of a shooting in his hometown of Sarasota, Florida.

While he was left in critical condition after suffering a gunshot wound to the head, Brian’s older brother, Tommie Battie IV, was killed.

Following the shooting, it was unclear if Brian Battie would ever walk again as court documents filed against the alleged shooter, Darryl Brookins, stated that the Auburn running back could be looking at a prognosis of permanent paralysis.

In a July 20th update posted to the family’s GoFundMe campaign, which has raised more than $115,000, the Battie family wrote that Brian had taken his first steps with a cane.

In a more recent update on July 26, Battie’s family wrote that Brian was determined to make a full recovery and eventually graduate from Auburn.

“We are in awe of His goodness and the miraculous recovery that has unfolded before our eyes,” Adriene Battie wrote on Saturday. “Thank you to EVERYONE who has been praying with us, standing with us, and believing with us. Today, we celebrate a miracle and give all the glory to God!”
