Nick Saban has message for Florida State fans angry over CFP snub
Nick Saban had a message for the thousands of Florida State fans in Dublin, Ireland as well as those watching ESPN’s “College GameDay” on Saturday.
“I just want Kirk (Herbstreit) to know, I got a thousand phone calls when we got into the playoffs,” Saban said Saturday in his debut on ESPN’s popular traveling pregame show. “He didn’t have anything to do with them not getting in the playoffs, and I didn’t either. We both got hammered.”
It didn’t seem to work.
Every time Herbstreit opened his mouth, Florida State fans rained boos on the analyst.
Last year, Florida State was an undefeated Power 5 team, but the Seminoles were left out of the College Football Playoff in favor of Saban’s one-loss Alabama.
Herbstreit defended the CFP’s decision, making him a target for FSU fans since the announcement was made.
“You didn’t deserve to get those phone calls,” Pat McAfee told Saban. “Now, there is a school that you beat that probably thought they should’ve gotten into the playoffs, too. They were the reigning national champions and only lost one game, but the Florida State people took up for everybody.”
McAfee was talking about Georgia, which Alabama defeated 27-24 in the SEC Championship Game.
