Popular Birmingham bar looks to reopen in Five Points South next week

The owner of Dave’s Pub in Birmingham’s Five Points South says the popular establishment should be reopened by next week.

In a social media post, Dan Williams said owners are waiting to receive the liquor license after gaining approval from the city.

According to Williams, “bottom line, we’ll be open next week sometime.”

“Thanks for your patience as ours has definitely been tested,” he wrote. “But good things come to those who wait and we have a lot of great stuff planned for our friends! See you soon!”

The bar at 1128 20th St. S. that opened in 1995 has been undergoing renovations for several weeks. It had planned a soft reopening last month, but that was delayed.

Dave’s Pub was purchased in May by Williams and his wife, Sherri. At the time, he said the bar was closed for “housekeeping and obtaining all necessary licenses and insurance.”

The watering hole has kept customers updated on progress.

“We’ve cleaned, scraped & painted just about every square inch of Dave’s at this point and it looks amazing. The old girl just needed a lil’ facelift,” the pub announced on Instagram in June.
