Observations, injury report from Alabama football’s 16th camp practice
Alabama football has less than two weeks until Kalen DeBoer’s head coaching debut. On Tuesday, the Crimson Tide took the field for its 16th practice of preseason camp.
One change was immediately noticeable. Alabama, which has long put offensive players in white practice jerseys and the defense in crimson, had swapped that order on Tuesday.
UA allowed reporters in for several periods of Tuesday’s practice, the last scheduled viewing period of camp. Here’s what we saw.
– The observable time began at the start of the fourth period.
– The defense went indoors during the open time. The offense used one field, while special teamers took another, with one of the outdoor gridirons left vacant. The defense went back outside at the end of the sixth period.
– The temperature in Tuscaloosa was cooler than it had been for some of the Tide’s other practices, 77 degrees.
– The playlist for Tuesday’s practice included “P.I.M.P.,” by 50 Cent, “Gin and Juice,” by Snoop Dogg and “So Fresh, So Clean,” by Outkast.
– Running back Jam Miller was wearing a black jersey signifying him as a non-contact participant in practice.
– Offensive guard Jaeden Roberts was not spotted at practice. Roberts was injured in Saturday’s scrimmage, though DeBoer said he will not miss any game time.
– Geno VanDeMark filled Roberts’ role as right guard with the first-team offensive line during drills.
– Alabama coaches have said the battle for the starting role at right tackle remains ongoing. Wilkin Formby was working with the first team on Tuesday.
– Running back Daniel Hill was present and practicing. Hill was spotted at Alabama’s Fan Day practice in a sling, and was not seen during UA’s previous open practice availability.
– Richard Young and Kevin Riley were also both fully participating in drills.
– Wide receiver Rico Scott was not seen during the observable periods.
– Players went through individual drills with their respective position groups during Tuesday’s open periods.
– On the other field, Alabama kickers practiced field goals. Graham Nicholson, Conor Talty and Reid Schuback all took turns during the observable periods.
– Alabama’s baseball coaching staff was in attendance for Tuesday’s practice.
– Reporters were ushered out of practice midway through the sixth period.
