Former NFL player, accused of urinating on passenger during flight, blames medication

Gosder Cherilus, a former NFL player, was arrested on a flight from Boston to Dublin, Ireland and accused of urinating on another passenger.

On Monday, the former offensive tackle posted on social media to say medication was the cause of his actions. Cherilus said the flight was delayed for roughly four hours and was set to depart until 12:30 a.m.

“In preparation for the unexpected overnight flight, I took a sleeping medication that I don’t normally use, which resulted in behavior that is not representative of my character, and I would like to apologize to the passengers and flight crew.”

Delta Air Lines Flight 154 was heading to Dublin from Boston early Sunday when it was diverted and forced to return to Logan International Airport “because of an unruly passenger who urinated on another passenger on board,” Massachusetts State Police said in a statement, per USA Today.

Police said troopers boarded the plane and “verbally commanded Cherilus to leave the plane, but he became irate and uncooperative.”

He was arrested for disorderly conduct and disturbing a flight crew.

“Delta has zero tolerance for unlawful behavior and will cooperate with law enforcement to that end,” an airline spokesperson said in a statement to USA Today. “We apologize to our customers for the delay in their travel.”

Cherilus was a 2008 first-round draft by the Detroit Lions (2008–2012). He also played for the Indianapolis Colts (2013–2014) and Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2015–2016).
