Gulf State Park pier to reopen on Alabama coast after Hurricane Sally damage repaired

The pier in Alabama’s Gulf State Park is ready for fishermen and sightseers again.

Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources Commissioner Chris Blankenship said the pier would reopen Monday.

It has been closed since November to repair damage from Hurricane Sally.

The storm, which struck in September 2020, collapsed a 200-foot section of the 1,540 foot pier.

The hurricane struck after the completion of a previous $2.4 million renovation to the pier.

Blankenship said a ribbon-cutting would be held in mid-September to commemorate the reopening and the repairs.

In April, Gulf State Park opened 20 new lakeside cabins that replaced cabins built in 1970 that were destroyed by Hurricane Sally.
