With no federal movement towards another round of stimulus payments, several states are preparing to send out direct payments to residents in an effort to provide inflation relief.

The stimulus checks – one worth as much as $1,500 – are meant to help Americans struggling to pay for the rising costs of food, gas and housing.

Here are the states that will be sending out stimulus payments to their residents as soon as this month:

California

California began sending out payments from its $9.5 billion Middle Class Tax Refund at the end of 2022. The payments include refunds of up to $1,050.

Payments will range from $400 to $1,050 for couples filing jointly and $200 to $700 for all other individuals depending on their income and whether they claimed a dependent.

A total of 18 million payments will be distributed, benefitting up to 23 million Californians. A vast majority of payments have been sent but some people will be receiving their money through this month.

Colorado

Colorado distributed stimulus payments of up to $750 for single tax filers and up to $1,500 for joint filers in 2022. People who filed their 2021 taxes on time likely received their stimulus payments already but those who request a six-month extension will likely not receive their checks until late January.

Idaho

Idaho began sending out rebates in March 22 with a second round following in September 2022. Funds are still being process through 2023 as state residents file their tax returns.

The state is sending the funds, $300 for single filers and $600 for joint filers, to eligible residents based on when the state’s taxation department received their 2021 tax return.

New Jersey

New Jersey’s refunds are coming in the forms of tax rebates.

Homeowners with incomes up to $150,000 get a $1,500 rebate, while those with incomes between $150,000 and $250,000 get $1,000. Renters are also eligible for a $450 rebate, as long as they don’t make more than $150,000.

Payments are scheduled to go out in the first few months of this year, with almost set to be distributed by May.

South Carolina

South Carolina is offering rebates of up to $800. While most went out prior to Dec. 31, 2022, residents who choose to file their tax returns on or before the Feb. 15 disaster relief extension will have their rebates issued in March 2023.
