Search for north Alabama stabbing suspect prompts lockdown at college

Boaz police have arrested a man they say stabbed a person Wednesday morning and prompted a lockdown at area schools.

According to police, officers responded to a call on Verbon Street at about 9:55 a.m. to find a person with severe cuts. The victim gave police the name of the person they said stabbed them, who left the area on foot.

The victim was transported to Marshal Medical Center South and flown out by helicopter.

Area schools, including Snead State Community College, were placed on lockdown.

About two hours later, police located Donny Nennis, 23, of Boaz, who they said was hiding behind a residence on Williams Street. Nennis is being held in the Boaz City Jail.

The Marshall County Drug Task Force, Etowah and Marshall County Sheriff’s Offices, Douglas, Sardis, Albertville and Snead State police departments assisted in the search.
