Auburn football fall practice No. 6: Injury notes and other observations

Hugh Freeze and the Auburn football team took to the practice field for the sixth practice of fall camp on Wednesday morning.

The viewing window media members spanned about 40 minutes, starting with a bit of stretching, followed by individual drills and one-on-one work in the redzone.

Here are a few observations from another scorcher-of-a-practice:

Participation report

A few notable Auburn players saw limited action during Tuesday’s practice:

  • Senior defensive back Keionte Scott and senior wide receiver KeAndre Lambert-Smith were both dressed out but spent a majority of the viewing window under the roof of the indoor facility, indicating they may be nursing minor injuries.
  • After being held back in the opening days of practice as he nursed a minor hamstring issue, redshirt freshman Tyler Johnson appeared full-go on Wednesday.
  • Sophomore edge rusher Keldric Faulk took a trip to the training table to get his left ankle taped, but quickly returned back to individual drills and didn’t seem bothered.
  • Redshirt freshman cornerback JC Hart, who has been raved about throughout fall camp, was dressed in a yellow, “no contact jersey” but didn’t appear very limited.
  • Sophomore kicker Alex McPherson was present for Wednesday’s practice, but remains in street clothes as he continues to improve from a gastrointestinal issue.

Other observations

  • A trio of freshman wide receivers all took reps at punt returner in Bryce Cain, Malcolm Simmons and Perry Thompson.
  • During the one-on-one drills between receivers and defensive backs, JC Hart had a pair of nice plays, notching a pass breakup over freshman receiver Perry Thompson and intercepting a pass from Walker White, who was working receivers buried in the depth chart during the rep.
  • At quarterback, the pecking order seems to be: Payton Thorne, Holden Geriner, Hank Brown and Walker White.
