North Alabama man thrown from truck, killed in head-on crash, survivor flown to hospital
An Athens man died Sunday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash that also injured one person.
Cpl. Reginal King of the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) said the incident happened at about 4:45 p.m. on Alabama 53 near the 338-mile marker, about four miles southeast of Ardmore in Limestone County.
Brandon H. Cooley, 44, was driving a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado pickup, when it collided head-on with a 2012 Chrysler 200, driven by Courtney G. Aughtman, 26, of Madison.
Cooley was not using a seat belt at the time of the crash and was ejected. He was pronounced dead at the scene, King said.
Aughtman was injured and airlifted to Huntsville Hospital in Huntsville for medical treatment.
Troopers with ALEA’s Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.
