This Alabama city is one of the ‘Best Places to Live for Families’
A Birmingham-area city has made a list of the best places for families to live.
Alabaster is No. 34 on a list of 50 cities highlighted in Fortune Well’s 50 Best Places to Live for Families.
Fortune Well, an imprint from Fortune Magazine devoted to working professionals, analyzed more than 2,000 cities across the country. To examine each place, Fortune reviewed nearly 200 data categories across five main themes: education, resources for aging adults, general wellness, financial health, and livability.
According to Fortune, the team behind the list eliminated locations with home sale prices that were more than twice as high as the state median. The team also incorporated socioeconomic, religious, and ethnic diversity into its data collection process.
In its summary of Alabaster, Fortune Well noted the city is popular for its affordability, good school system, and Shelby Baptist Medical Center, the largest medical facility in Shelby County.

“The 940-acre Oak Mountain State Park is Alabama’s largest and just a 10-minute drive away for hikers, bikers, and campers. The nearby Cahaba River is great for canoeing or fishing, with more than 135 fish species,” wrote Fortune Well. “In the city itself, there are a number of green spaces, such as Veterans Park and Buck Creek Park, offering everything from softball fields to walking trails.
