‘SNL’ legend returning in big election role for 50th season

Maya Rudolph will return to NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” for this fall’s 50th season to reprise her Emmy-winning role as Vice President Kamala Harris.

According to Deadline, the SNL alum will return for several episodes in the run up to the November presidential election.

After President Joe Biden’s July 21 announcement that he would not seek reelection and endorsed Harris as the Democratic Presidential nominee, fans of Rudolph flocked to social media, hopeful Rudolph would return to her SNL impersonation of Harris.

Deadline reports Harris will pause her work the the Apple TV + comedy “Loot” to return to SNL for several episodes. The series, which was slated to begin filming its third season on Aug. 26, has been paused due to scheduling constraints.

On Aug. 2, Democratic National Committee Chair Jaime Harrison announced Harris has secured enough delegate votes to secure the Democratic presidential nomination. The DNC is set to make an official announcement of results on the evening of Aug. 5 when the virtual voting process closes for delegates to this month’s Democratic National Convention, reports NBC.

So far, Harris has garnered some big-ticket support, including the endorsement of Jimmy Carter.

Carter, who is two months shy of his 100th birthday, is “only trying to make it” to his centurion year to cast his ballot for Harris his grandson said Saturday.

Harris is in the final days of her search for a running mate. According to CNN, Harris is conducting face-to-face interviews with the final contenders which include Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro, and Arizona Sen. Mark Kelly.
