2 charged with capital murder in connection with fatal July 20 Huntsville shooting
Huntsville police have charged two people with capital murder in connection with a deadly shooting July 20.
Police were called to Spool Drive around 5:50 a.m. on that Saturday and discovered an unconscious person lying outside a residence with multiple gunshot wounds.
The victim was identified as Naji Wiggins, 21. Wiggins was pronounced dead at the scene.
A second gunshot victim, identified as Chauncey Devon Smith, 26, of Selma, showed up at a local hospital a short time later, police said. The individuals who transported Smith to the hospital were detained.
Police have charged Alazia Na’Riya Latrice Harris, 20, of Montgomery, with capital murder.
Major Crimes Unit investigators have also determined Smith was involved in the shooting, which they believe was the result of an attempted robbery.
A capital murder warrant has been issued for Smith, who has not been booked into jail at this time and is currently receiving medical treatment for a gunshot wound, according to police.
Harris fled to Montgomery, but later turned herself in authorities there. She was transported to Huntsville on Wednesday and booked into the jail.
The case remains under investigation.
