A Midfield man has been arrested on murder and other charges in the fatal shooting of another Alabama man at a Walmart in Rhode Island, police said.

Shawn Eric Slaughter, 56, of Midfield, is charged in the murder of Eric Campbell, 51, of Jackson’s Gap, early Saturday morning at the Walmart on Silver Spring Street in Providence, police said.

Slaughter is also charged with possession of a firearm without a license and possession of a firearm while committing a crime of violence, police said.

The men were at the Walmart to work on flooring when they began to fight, according to WJAR.

Slaughter then allegedly pulled out a gun and shot Campbell.

Campbell was taken to a local hospital where he died of his injuries.

Slaughter is being held without bail following his arraignment Monday.

His next court appearance is scheduled for next week.
