Amtrak trains are poised to return for regular trips out of Mobile next year for the first time since 2005, under a set of agreements the City Council is expected to approve next week.

But on Tuesday, following the council’s weekly meeting, few answers were provided on exactly when the trains will be running twice-daily from downtown Mobile to New Orleans’ Union Station. Also unanswered is how much the fare will cost to take the train for an approximately three-hour, one-way trip to New Orleans with four stops in coastal Mississippi.
