Major country star, Rock the South headliner to perform again in Alabama

Jelly Roll, a headliner at this year’s Rock the South festival, will return to Alabama for a fall concert in Birmingham.

The country star has scheduled a show on Nov. 21 at the Legacy Arena at the BJCC. It’s a stop on his “The Beautifully Broken Tour,” with opening acts Ernest, Shaboozey and Allie Colleen.

Tickets for the Birmingham date go on sale Friday, Aug. 2, at 10 a.m. CT via Ticketmaster. Prices are $39.50, $59.50, $79.50, $99.50, $129.50 and $159.50, plus service charges, according to promoter Live Nation. Pre-sales start at 10 a.m. CT on Tuesday and end at 10 p.m. CT on Thursday, according to the Ticketmaster listing.

Jelly Roll previously confirmed more than 50 dates for the tour, which kicks off Aug. 27 at the Delta Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, and ends on Nov. 23 at Vystar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida. (See all his tour dates here.)

The artist, 39, is a Nashville native. He has performed in Alabama several times over the years, most recently as the headlining act on July 18 at the Rock the South festival in Cullman. Jelly Roll also made a guest appearance at this year’s Hangout Music Festival in Gulf Shores, singing “Sweet Home Alabama” with Lana Del Rey.

Jelly Roll, born Jason DeFord, has nine solo albums and several collaborative albums to his credit, 2012-present. His signature sound initially blended country with rap and Southern rock, but has leaned to full-on country in recent years.

Jelly Roll earned his first burst of fame with the album “A Beautiful Disaster,” released in 2020. He received even more acclaim with 2021′s “Ballads of the Broken,” released by BBR Music Group. The album featured a No. 1 country single, “Son of a Sinner.”

Jelly Roll’s 2023 follow-up, “Whitsitt Chapel,” is widely regarded as his major breakthrough in the country world, prompting a CMA Award for him as New Artist of the Year.

Singles from “Whitsitt Chapel” — such as “Need a Favor,” “Halfway to Hell” and “Save Me” (with Lainey Wilson) — hit the Billboard charts, as well. Jelly Roll’s collaboration with Wilson won an ACM Award this year, in the category of Music Event of the Year. Jelly Roll also earned three major CMT Music Awards linked to “Whitsitt Chapel”: Video of the Year, Male Video of the Year and CMT Performance of the Year, all for his song “Need a Favor.”

Expanding his audience even more, Jelly Roll served as a mentor for contestants on Season 22 of ABC’s “American Idol,” coaching several singers for performances at Disney’s Aulani resort on the coast of Oahu. Three contestants from Alabama — Triston Harper, Mia Matthews and KBlocks — were in the mix this season, receiving tips and support from Jelly Roll.

Jelly Roll also teamed with Machine Gun Kelly for a new single, “Lonely Road,” that premiered on YouTube July 25. “In the Sam Cahill-directed clip for the song that pays homage to John Denver’s iconic 1971 hit ‘Take Me Home, Country Roads,’ KellyRoll — as they’ve dubbed themselves — are joined by MGK’s girlfriend, actress Megan Fox, and Jelly’s wife, Bunnie Xo, who both have prominent roles in the tear-in-your-beer storyline,” Billboard said.
