Suspect charged in deadly Bessemer shooting that also injured 2 others

A suspect has been charged in last week’s fatal shooting in Bessemer that also left two other people injured.

Tracey Darnell Rush, 47, is charged with murder in the killing of 43-year-old Demetrius LaKeen Fletcher, according to court records made public Tuesday..

The shooting happened at 11:58 p.m. Thursday in the 1900 block of 10th Avenue North. Fletcher was pronounced dead on the scene at 12:24 a.m. Friday.

Bessemer police Det. Justin Burmeister said witnesses told investigators there was some type of argument before the suspect started shooting.

Two other people sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

One the surviving victims is the suspect’s girlfriend. All of those involved were friends, Burmeister said.

In addition to murder, Rush is charged with first-degree assault and first-degree domestic violence.

He remains held in the Jefferson County Jail.
