The number of educators retiring in Alabama is climbing again, with nine school districts seeing the highest number of retirements in the past decade.

Just under 3,100 employees retired from July of 2023 through June of 2024, according to the Teachers Retirement Systems of Alabama. Numbers include teachers and other staff who have vested in the system after at least 10 years of employment.
