30 Alabama cities, counties that won’t waive sales tax during tax holiday

Looking for back-to-school specials? For the most savings during Alabama’s sales tax holiday, check your store’s location.

During the tax holiday between 12:01 a.m. on Friday, July 19 and midnight on Sunday, July 21, shoppers won’t be charged the state’s 4% sales tax on certain classroom essentials.

But some localities, including Jefferson County, will still charge a local sales tax on purchases. Other cities and counties will waive all sales and use taxes.

The following localities only do partial sales tax waivers:

Geneva County – The sales tax holiday only applies to Geneva County’s regular sales and use tax of 1%. A remaining 1% sales and use tax levied for education remains in effect.

Jefferson County – Jefferson County waiving its regular sales and use tax of 1% but not the remaining 1% special revenue tax for educational purposes.

Spanish Fort – 1.5% sales and use tax waive. Doesn’t apply to Spanish Fort Town Center District or Eastern Shore District.

St. Clair County – St. Clair County waiving its regular sales and use tax of 1% but not the remaining 1% special revenue tax for educational purposes.

Thomasville – Thomasville is waiving its regular sales and use tax of 4% but not the 1% for education.
