Witnesses sought in deadly shootout at Birmingham’s The Quest nightclub
Authorities are asking witnesses to come forward in the May shooting at a Birmingham nightclub that left two men dead.
Investigators know that Shane Gady and Terrance Terrell Brown Jr., both 32, fatally shot each other, but they still need more answers.
“We know the who, we know the what, we know the when, we know the how,’’ said Officer Truman Fitzgerald. “We don’t know the why.”
Officers were called to the club at 416 24th Street South just before 6:30 a.m. on Friday, May 24.
Patrons and police rendered aid to both men until Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service arrived.
Brown was pronounced dead on the scene at 6:44 a.m. Gady was taken to UAB Hospital where he remained until his death two days later.

Investigators recovered two guns from inside the nightclub near the “shots fired area.”
“What we want to know as a police department is we want the facts to help close this case, not our opinions,’’ Fitzgerald said.
“We know Terrell and Shane shot each other,’’ he said. “But what we don’t know is who was the aggressor, and who was merely reacting.”
Birmingham police said they will not close the case until they have all the questions answered.
“We owe it to both families to have the facts speak for themselves in this case,’’ he said.
The Quest has been a popular dance club since the 1970s. Multiple incidents of violence have taken place there over the past three years including another homicide and a Birmingham police officer shot.
Fitzgerald said potential witnesses can remain anonymous and should not be hesitant to come forward. “We just want people to feel comfortable coming forward,’’ he said. “Our main concern is the information.”
Anyone with information is asked to call Birmingham police at 205-254-1764 or Crime Stoppers at 205-254-7777.
