‘Dementia-ridden’ Joe Biden ‘not running’ the country, Tommy Tuberville claims
Sen. Tommy Tuberville on Wednesday claimed President Biden is a “dementia-ridden leader” that is “not running” the country.
Alabama’s senior senator made the remark during an appearance on Fox News after being asked to weigh in on a news conference by Democratic governors who voiced their support for Biden after meeting with the president on Wednesday.
“What a clown show,” Tuberville said. “What do these Democratic governors think they’re electing? A homecoming king? This is a disaster. We’ve all seen it for the last 3 ½ years as Republicans. Most of the Democrats are so blind they cannot tell a leader from a non-leader, and Joe Biden hadn’t been making any decisions.”
The meeting was held as Biden has faced increasing pressure following a disastrous debate performance against Donald Trump last week in Atlanta.
Alabama’s senior senator claimed, without evidence, that Biden is suffering from dementia. He did not explain what he based the diagnosis on.
“People need to understand – including the Democrats – our country and this world is on life support, and we got a dementia-ridden leader – supposed leader – in President Biden running this country,” Tuberville said.
“But he’s not running it, he’s got people around him running it,” he said. “We’re in tough shape.”
On Tuesday, Texas Democratic Rep. Lloyd Doggett called for Biden to formally withdraw from the race — the first sitting member of Congress to do so.
But most of the party’s highest-profile leaders in Congress and elsewhere have continued to back him, at least for now.
There is also no indication that the president is seriously considering stepping aside.
Biden’s campaign has downplayed the president’s political problems in a series of memos and private meetings with donors, strategists and party insiders, insisting that Biden can put one bad debate performance Biden him without hurting his long-term chances in November.
