UPDATE: Authorities said the missing swimmer has been found dead. Recovery of his body is underway.

EARLIER: A search is underway for a missing swimmer at Oak Mountain State Park.

The swimmer – a 27-year-old man – was last seen swimming near the dam, not the beach area.

Pelham firefighters and the dive team, as well as park officials, responded to the scene.

The search began shortly after 3 p.m.

Three swimmers were together when two of them went into distress. The other was able to quickly recover.
