Biden vs. Trump latest poll: Who is ahead? What if Trump ran against Kamala Harris?
The fallout from Joe Biden’s disastrous debate continues even as new polling shows the race between the president and Republican Donald Trump remains extremely tight.
The poll from Yahoo News/YouGov shows Trump was the pick of 45% of registered voters compared to 43% for Biden. Those figures are within the poll’s margin of error of 3%, making the race a statistical dead heat.
Trump’s numbers improved to 44%, however, when “another candidate” was factored into the race. Biden polled at 40%; independent Robert F. Kennedy Jr. had the third highest percentage at 4%.
The close race belies Biden’s other polling numbers. When asked if Biden, 81, was fit to serve another term, 60% said “no.” Fifty-seven percent said Biden was not up to handling the challenges facing the U.S., compared to 44% who said the same for Trump. Sixty-five percent said Biden, who would be 82 at the start of his second term and 86 at the end, is too old for another term as president. Thirty-seven said Trump, who would be 78 at the start of his second term and 82 at the end, was too old to serve as president.
Polling also showed voters thought Biden’s age was a bigger problem than Trump’s recent criminal conviction related to hush money paid to an adult film star – 42% to 38%.

Trump vs. Harris?
While there is no indication from the White House that Biden plans to exit the race, 36% of registered Democrats or those who described themselves as Democratic-leaning felt he should step aside, up 8 percentage points since March.
If Biden were to drop out. 42% said they would prefer “someone else” over Vice President Kamala Harris at 38% as the nominee. Among registered Democrats, Harris was the pick for 31%, compared to 17% for California Gov. Gavin Newsom and 8% for Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg.
Harris does perform well against Trump in a hypothetical two-candidate race, polling at 45% compared to Trump’s 47%, in part, pollsters said, because of stronger performances with independents and voters aged 30-40.
The Yahoo News/YouGov Poll was conducted June 28-July 1 among 1,754 adults.
