Week 5 NFL props: Jalen Hurts passing yards, Derrick Henry TD player prop picks

The National Football League is in as strong of a spot as it has been this decade, both with the amount of young talent flowing throughout the league and the veteran stars that are still holding it down.

But as everyone knows, the NFL runs through Alabama, where many of the best players went to college. Keep an eye on these former ‘Bama studs this weekend.

Jalen Hurts props: Over 246.5 passing yards (-110 or better)

Hurts is fifth in the NFL in passing yards despite concerns that he was inaccurate coming out of college. He has also taken very little time to ingratiate summer pickup A.J. Brown into the offense, while the incumbent DeVonta Smith is also thriving as the number-two option in the passing game.

Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles will be taking on the Arizona Cardinals on the road as they hope to keep the league’s only undefeated record intact.

The Cardinals have allowed the 10th-most passing yards this season and, although they are coming off of a win, have looked unimpressive for the majority of the season. Expect Hurts to air the ball out to great success in the desert.

Amari Cooper props: Over 49.5 receiving yards (-110 or better)

Cooper remains one of the big question marks in the league. He is either one of the best players at his position or completely anonymous, depending on the weekend, with seemingly no pattern or desire to change his ways.

The Cleveland Browns’ top wideout has gone over 100 yards twice and under 20 yards twice through four games as his erratic behavior is at an all-time high.

Cooper gets the benefit of the doubt for a couple of reasons. First, he is going against a banged-up Los Angeles Chargers squad. Second, Justin Herbert and LA’s offense are likely to score in bunches, forcing the Browns to air the ball out in retaliation.

If that happens, he will have a great deal of chances to catch passes.

Derrick Henry props: Anytime touchdown scorer (-165 or better)

Henry is the bell cow on a Tennessee Titans team that, despite only being 2-2, leads the NFL in first quarter scoring.

Of course, his bet will not be defined just by the first quarter, but it makes sense that he would get the first crack at the end zone as the team’s most dominant player.

Even if Henry falls short on the first drive, he has a ton of time to operate against a Washington Commanders defense that has been friendly to opposing offenses.

Furthermore, Washington’s offense is averaging the fewest yards per play and figures to lose the time of possession battle decisively, giving “King Henry” extra opportunities.

Josh Jacobs props: Over 61.5 rushing yards

Jacobs is being disrespected with this rushing line, in all honesty. The 24-year-old do-it-all back has gone over this total in three out of four tries, and in the game where he didn’t, he was only five yards off. His Las Vegas Raiders are also facing a Kansas City Chiefs team not known for its defense.

Jacobs went for a season-best 144 yards and two touchdowns against a supposedly-tough Denver Broncos defense last week, and with that confidence spurring him on, he should be ready for another explosive outing.

Derek Carr has also had trouble forming a reliable connection with Davante Adams, at least by the latter’s lofty standards, and could rely on Jacobs to carry the offensive burden. Get Jacobs’ line while you can before it shifts up.

Najee Harris props: Under 51.5 rushing yards (-110 or better)

All good things have to come to an end eventually, and this is where the overs stop. Najee Harris is, in all likelihood, going to be in for a hard day on Sunday when his Pittsburgh Steelers meet the Buffalo Bills and their staunch defense.

Harris is averaging just about 51 yards per game, so he would struggle to outperform his standard against such a talented outfit.

The biggest problem for Harris, however, is his quarterback, Kenny Pickett. Pickett made his first professional appearance last weekend and is now getting his first start, which means that the Bills are likely to game plan against Harris and dare Pickett to throw the ball down the field.

If this is true, Harris can expect to face a bunch of loaded boxes and have very little breathing room for all four quarters.
