24-year-old Alabama father gunned down outside Mississippi bar
An Alabama man has been identified as the homicide victim shot outside a Mississippi bar over the weekend, described by his family as a 24-year-old father who was an “amazing young man stolen from us.”
Brandon Michael Cartwright, 24, of Fruitdale, in Washington County, was shot and around 2 a.m. Saturday in the parking lot of the High Noon Lounge and Karaoke in Waynesboro, Mississippi, the Wayne County Coroner’s Office told AL.com Monday. He died of his injuries at Wayne General Hospital.
A suspect, Jaylen Keonta Mayfield, 24, is being sought by Waynesboro police on a murder warrant in connection with Cartwright’s death, the Wayne County News reported. Mayfield was believed to have fled in a tan SUV that was later found abandoned in Waynesboro.
Cartwright’s distraught family is making funeral arrangements, and his mother, Teresa Cooper, set up a GoFundMe for the costs.
Crysta Anderson, Cartwright’s wife, said his death is “traumatizing.”
“I love you my baby. I just wish I could have you back and this nightmare was over,” she posted on social media. “I feel so lost and confused. You was my world. It feels like everything is impossible without you here with me and our babies. I can’t even stay in our own home because it just would hurt me so bad staying there and your not there with us. This is just traumatizing,” she said.
Anderson said she “lost my husband, my forever, my best friend” and “I would never wish this on my worst enemy or on anyone matter of fact because this is the hardest thing I’ve ever had to go through, and I never thought at 22 years old i was gonna have to to put my husband to rest and plan his funeral. It’s just the most difficult thing I’ve ever had to do. I love you so much, my baby.”
Teresa Cooper said she missed her son and will remember his laughter.
“I’m gonna miss all those random visits all those random things you always do,” she said on social media. “I’m gonna miss the way you laugh your sent and so much more. Gonna miss all those crazy things you always got into. Gonna miss those beautiful eyes I get to see everyday when I look into your son’s eyes. I’m gonna miss you so freaking badly. I will see to it justice if served if it takes my last breathe. You was an absolutely amazing young man stolen from us.”
