Beloved Alabama teacher, 8-year-old son die in car crash
A Troy woman who was recently named “teacher of the year” and her child were killed in a two-vehicle crash in Pike County on Thursday evening.
Heather Minton, 40, died from her injuries from the crash in Brundidge on Pike County Road 4421. A young passenger in her vehicle, which WTVY reported was Minton’s eight-year-old son, also died from injuries after being airlifted to a medical facility.
Six other people were injured in the crash, per news reports.
Information about their conditions was not immediately available. The Brundidge Police Department was not available for comment.
Minton was a science teacher at Pike County High School, per the school’s website. The county school system named her as Overall Secondary Teacher of the Year and Pike County High School Teacher of the Year in 2023, the Troy Messenger reported.
The Brundidge Police Department and other agencies, including Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, the county coroner’s and district attorney’s offices are investigating the crash, the Messenger reported.
A GoFundMe has been set up for the family and Brundidge Methodist Church has established a fund for the family.
