What is Auburn’s history with new SEC members Texas, Oklahoma?
The SEC has officially expanded, with Texas and Oklahoma fully members of the league as of July 1.
Upcoming schedules trickling out have early indications on when Auburn may first play against its new league-mates as conference opponents. But what is Auburn’s history with the SEC’s two newest members?
All time, Auburn has a total of 49 head-to-head matchups across all of its sports against Texas and Oklahoma, according to data from Auburn’s athletic department website. Auburn has faced Oklahoma 25 times and Texas 24.
The first matchup between Auburn and either of the schools came in 1910 — Auburn lost 9-0 to Texas in football that year.
The most commonly faced team was Auburn softball against Oklahoma, which have met 10 total times including in the championship series for the 2017 Women’s College World Series. Oklahoma won.
Eighteen of the 49 total games have been in the postseason. Auburn’s football team has played Oklahoma twice ever and both times were in the Sugar Bowl.
Auburn’s record against Texas and Oklahoma over its history, however, is well… not great.
Auburn is a combined 18-31 against Texas and Oklahoma, including 8-17 against the Sooners. The only Auburn teams with winning records against either Oklahoma or Texas are men’s basketball against Oklahoma (2-1), women’s basketball against Texas (1-0) and Oklahoma (1-0), baseball against Texas (1-0), women’s tennis against Oklahoma (1-0) and women’s swim and dive against Texas (2-1).
The Auburn team with the most wins against Texas or Oklahoma all-time is football, which has won three games against Texas. But Auburn has also lost to Texas five times in football.
Auburn softball leads the way both in the number of games played against either opponent, but also in losses to either Texas or Oklahoma, having lost eight of 10 to the Sooners. Auburn’s baseball team has also lost five of six against Oklahoma.
