Mobile County corrections officer arrested for allegedly assaulting an inmate

A Mobile County corrections officer was arrested and booked into the Metro Jail Thursday for allegedly using excessive force on an inmate.

Robert Small, a corrections officer with the Mobile County Sheriff’s Department for nearly five years, was arrested for using what authorities said was excessive force on an inmate on Wednesday. No further details were provided.

He was charged with an assault.

“We will not tolerate conduct unbecoming of our Corrections Officer’s towards any inmate at Metro Jail,” Sheriff Paul Burch said in a statement released to the media.

“Once I was notified of the incident and spoke with his chain of command, it was unanimously decided that he would be charged and fired from our office immediately.”
