MLB All-Star Game ballot includes 3 with Alabama roots

Time is running out for fans to vote in Phase 1 of the process to select the starters for the 94th Major League Baseball All-Star Game.

Three players with Alabama baseball roots appear on the ballot — Baltimore Orioles shortstop Gunnar Henderson (Morgan Academy) in the American League and Miami Marlins shortstop Tim Anderson (Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa) and St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Brendan Donovan (Enterprise, South Alabama) in the National League.

While with the Chicago White Sox, Anderson was chosen for the game in 2021 and 2022 and was the American League starter at shortstop in the latter season.

The MLB All-Star Game will be played on July 16 at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.

Picking the all-star starters is a two-stage process, and the first phase of the balloting ends at 11 a.m. CDT Thursday. Fans can vote online for their all-star choices.

At 5 p.m. Thursday, the top two vote-getters in each league at each position other than outfielder and pitcher will be announced. Fans don’t select the all-star pitchers, and the top six vote-getters in the outfield will be revealed.

The leading vote-getter in each league will be placed in the starting lineup for the All-Star Game with the other announced players moving on to Phase 2 of the voting process.

Fan voting in Phase 2 will begin at 11 a.m. Sunday and conclude at 11 a.m. July 3. The winners of this portion of the balloting will be the starters for the All-Star Game.

The starting lineups will be announced at 6 p.m. July 3 on ESPN.

The pitchers and reserves – a total of 23 players – will be chosen via player voting and the Commissioner’s Office. Those selections will be announced at 4:30 p.m. July 7 on ESPN.

Bruce Bochy of the Texas Rangers and Torey Lovullo of the Arizona Diamondbacks will manage the American League and National League teams, respectively.

FOX will televise the 2024 MLB All-Star Game at 7 p.m. July 16.
