Man ‘experiencing severe mental health crisis’ shot in arm by brother at Hoover home
An early-morning shooting at a Hoover left one man with a non-life-threatening injury.
Police were dispatched at 3:04 a.m. Tuesday to a call of a person shot at a house in the 4500 block of High Court Circle.
The victim was found with a gunshot wound to the arm, said Lt. Daniel Lowe. He was treated on the scene by Hoover fire medics and then taken to Grandview Medical Center.
Lowe said the victim’s brother was taken into custody at the home for questioning.
“Detectives began an investigation and determined the shooting victim likely experienced a severe mental health crisis during which his brother fired one round,’’ Lowe said.
Investigators presented the case to the Shelby County District Attorney’s Office and have released the shooter pending further investigation. The case may be presented to a Shelby County grand jury at a later date to determine if any criminal charges are warranted against either individual involved, Lowe said.
Because there have been no criminal charges filed, the names of those involved are not being released.
