Auburn softball lands Oklahoma transfer pitcher, former top-rated recruit SJ Geurin
Cryptic posts from Auburn softball’s new coaching staff came Friday night as co-head coaches Chris and Kate Malveaux and pitching coach Ryker Chason all posted their “WDE” bat signals with no other explanation.
Come Saturday evening, the reason for the cryptic posts became clearer as Oklahoma transfer pitcher SJ Geurin announced her commitment to join the Tigers on The Plains in a post to her Instagram.
Geurin’s commitment makes her the first player to onboard with the Tigers since the hiring of Chris and Kate Malveaux, who said they’d be looking to add “maybe a couple” of pitchers this offseason.
After redshirting in 2023, Geurin pitched 10 innings for the national championship-winning Sooners this past season. Geurin finished the year having logged nine strikeouts, given up just four hits and one earned run while recording a 0.70 ERA.
In two seasons in Norman, Geurin was a part of a pair of national championship-winning runs with Oklahoma, which won its fourth consecutive title earlier this month.
Coming out of Leander High School in Leander, Texas, Geurin helped the Lions to the No. 1 ranking in country by MaxPreps during her junior season in 2021. That same year, Geurin posted a 23-1 record with a .093 ERA and tallied 272 strikeouts on 158 innings pitched.
Ranked the No. 7 pitcher in the 2022 class by Extra Innings Softball, Geurin committed to Oklahoma over UCLA, Oregon and Texas A&M.
Now joining the Tigers on The Plains, Geurin will find herself in the middle of a pitching staff that’s looking to replace nearly 90% of its production from the 2024 season as Auburn’s three main pitchers from this past season have either graduated or entered the transfer portal.
