Suspect charged in shooting death of Birmingham man who was found slain in SUV
A suspect has been charged in the shooting death of a man found slain inside a car earlier this month.
O’Nandas Carmece Beard, 26, is charged with murder in the June 7 shooting death of 35-year-old Demarco Cortez Thomas.
Beard was taken into custody by the Birmingham Police Department’s Crime Reduction Team at a home in west Birmingham.
Officer Truman Fitzgerald said detectives also recovered a “Glock Switch” at the home.
He was booked into the Jefferson County Jail at 6:08 p.m. Tuesday and remains held without bond.
Thomas, also known as Geremy Demarco Sistrunk, was shot and killed about 3:30 p.m. that Friday.
West Precinct officers were dispatched to a report of shots fired in the 400 Block of 9th Street West. Officers were then received an update that a black SUV had crashed near the intersection.
When officers arrived on the scene, they saw the wrecked vehicle. Thomas was found dead inside.
A motive has not been disclosed.
