Motorcyclist and pedestrian killed in separate overnight crashes in Birmingham

Two people were killed in separate Birmingham traffic crashes overnight.

The first happened at 5:14 p.m. Thursday in the 800 block of Valley Avenue.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Gregory Scott Gravitt. He was 54 and lived in Gardendale.

Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates said Gravitt was driving a motorcycle that was struck by a vehicle.

He was pronounced dead on the scene at 5:21 p.m.

Later Thursday – at 8:40 p.m. – pedestrian Nicholas Joseph Stein was hit by a vehicle in the 4600 block of U.S. 280, also in Birmingham.

Stein, 38, was pronounced dead on the scene at 8:57 p.m. He was from Mississippi.

Both fatal incidents are being investigated by Birmingham police.
