As the Birmingham Water Works searches for a new general manager, the utility’s board is expected to vote next week to hire a temporary leader and another consultant to evaluate operations.

The top officials on the board are recommending hiring Darryl Jones, a retired longtime employee of the water works, to fill the general manager vacancy on an interim basis as the group searches for a permanent leader.
